What Apple.de gets right: a teardown of its 14-day withdrawal disclosure

We scanned apple.com/de and the German storefront satisfies the Consumer Rights Directive disclosures most cleanly. Here is how Apple presents the 14-day withdrawal right, the model withdrawal form, and the trader identity, and what smaller stores can copy.

Apple's German storefront, apple.com/de, satisfies the core CRD Article 6 disclosures most cleanly out of the EU storefronts we have scanned. The 14-day right of withdrawal is presented in plain German alongside the model withdrawal form. Trader identity is named in the footer. VAT-inclusive pricing is surfaced site-wide. This is a useful reference for any Shopify or WooCommerce merchant trying to model their own compliance copy.

How Apple.de presents the 14-day withdrawal right

The withdrawal-rights disclosure on apple.com/de is reachable from the footer and named clearly as "Widerrufsrecht". The German wording follows the BGB-aligned phrasing that consumer associations have repeatedly held to be defensible.

Widerrufsrecht: Wenn du deine Bestellung stornieren oder Produkte zurückgeben möchtest...

The model withdrawal form is referenced explicitly. CRD Article 6(1)(h) requires this when the right of withdrawal exists.

Du hast außerdem das Recht, uns über das unten stehende Muster-Widerrufsformular oder eine andere eindeutige Erklärung zu informieren.

How Apple.de names the trader and the complaints contact

Apple Distribution International Ltd., the Irish entity that signs the contract with EU consumers, is named in the footer with a complete address. The complaints procedure (CRD Article 6(1)(g)) points at the same Cork, Ireland address.

Muster-Widerrufsformular: An Apple Distribution International Ltd., iTunes Store Customer Support, Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Irland.
apple.com/de, complaints/withdrawal contact block

This single block satisfies four separate requirements at once: CRD Article 6(1)(b) (trader identity), 6(1)(c) (geographical address), 6(1)(g) (complaints procedure), and Section 5 of the German Telemediengesetz (Impressum). One paragraph of structured contact details, four boxes ticked.

What other CRD checks Apple.de also passes

  • VAT-inclusive pricing is presented at site level, satisfying CRD Article 6(1)(e) and German PAngV Section 1.
  • Trader identity is clearly provided in the footer with company name and contact details.

Two minor gaps we observed

Even on a near-best-in-class storefront, our scan returned two non-violation warnings. Neither has attracted EU enforcement so far, but they are worth knowing about.

  • No skip-navigation link on the homepage or product page. WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 2.4.1 recommends a "Skip to main content" link so keyboard users do not tab through every navigation item. No DPA or market surveillance authority has fined for this specifically.
  • Delivery timeframe phrasing not surfaced on the homepage in the variants our multilingual detector recognises. CRD Article 6(1)(g) requires this, and Apple's order-page flow does include it, but the homepage itself does not.

So prüfen wirComplianceGuardHQ does not assume your storefront fails any of these checks. Apple's disclosures are a reference, not a benchmark you are expected to clear on day one. Run a free scan to find out which CRD Article 6 items your storefront passes today, in your own German wording.

What a smaller Shopify or WooCommerce store can copy

Three Apple.de patterns translate directly to any EU-facing Shopify or Woo storefront.

  • Put trader identity, complete address, and the complaints contact in a single footer block. One paragraph covers Impressum and CRD 6(1)(b), (c), and (g) at once.
  • Present the withdrawal-rights disclosure in the local language of the buyer, with the model withdrawal form embedded or linked, not just an English summary linked from the footer.
  • Surface VAT-inclusive pricing site-wide. Do not rely on the buyer reading a tax disclaimer on the order page.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Does Apple.de comply with the EU Consumer Rights Directive?

Our scan of apple.com/de on 26 May 2026 found that the homepage and linked withdrawal-rights section satisfy CRD Article 6(1)(b), (c), (e), (g), and (h). The site names the trader (Apple Distribution International Ltd.), includes a complete Cork, Ireland address, presents VAT-inclusive pricing, and references the model withdrawal form. Specific subpages or future changes are not covered by this scan result.

How does Apple.de display the 14-day withdrawal right?

Apple.de surfaces the right of withdrawal in German under the heading "Widerrufsrecht" and includes the model withdrawal form with the trader address (Apple Distribution International Ltd., Cork, Ireland). This is the format CRD Article 6(1)(h) and Annex I require.

What is CRD Article 6(1)(h)?

Article 6(1)(h) of Directive 2011/83/EU (the Consumer Rights Directive) requires the trader to inform the consumer, before the consumer is bound by a distance contract, about the conditions, time limit, and procedures for exercising the right of withdrawal, along with the model withdrawal form set out in Annex I(B) of the Directive.

Does Apple's German store satisfy German Impressum requirements?

Yes. Section 5 of the German Telemediengesetz, now part of the DSA national implementation, requires a clearly identifiable Impressum reachable from every page. Apple.de's footer names Apple Distribution International Ltd. with its Cork, Ireland address, which is the form German consumer-protection associations have accepted in published decisions.

What can my smaller Shopify or WooCommerce store learn from Apple.de?

Three patterns transfer directly: put trader identity, address, and complaints contact in a single footer block; present withdrawal rights in the buyer's local language with the model withdrawal form embedded; and surface VAT-inclusive pricing site-wide rather than disclosing tax only at checkout.
